My Journey

My Story

International Student
California Based
Independent Artist

Hi, I'm Jue Xu. People also called me Selina. I am an international student from China and now study in California. I have been very passionate about art since I was seven years old. Over the years, I've learned how to use different media and materials to create art, varying from traditional sketch to digital art. I find inspiration in everyday moments, nature, and my study abroad experience and visualize them through my works.

Beyond art, I am very interested in psychology. I participated in the USC Summer Program, where I expanded my knowledge of psychology and got to know myself a little deeper. I am also a dancer and colorguard performer. Through movements, dancing and performing also let me express emotions, just like doing art.

Some of my artworks explore themes like anxiety, identity, and connection, reflecting my thoughts and feelings as I experience different cultures. Others are simply recording the beauty I notice in everyday life—ocean waves, sunset, people's eyes, and beautiful faces. Either way, art is a tool of expressing feelings, recording self-discovery, and showing love for the world around me.

When I'm not drawing, I enjoy going to the beach, listening to music, reading novels, and watching movies. Connecting with nature, listening to meaningful lyrics, and exploring characters and their growth in books and films allow me to feel life more deeply and resonate with myself.
